Young and old, there is plenty for everyone to do in Kauai. Here are some favorite activities among seniors:
Take a Na Pali Coast boat tour (this is something for everyone but must be done during the summer months)
Visit the Allerton Garden in Poipu. This is a national botanical garden across from the Spouting Horn. Learn more at http://ntbg.org/gardens/allerton.php
Visit the Limahuli Gardens. This is another national botanical garden that is located on the North shore and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Learn more at http://ntbg.org/gardens/limahuli.php .
Visit Maha’ulepu Beach. I am not suggesting a swim here, as the waters can be rough, but it is a wonderful spot for a gentle hike along the coast and a great spot to watch the windsurfers. You can start your hike at the Grand Hyatt and walk along the shore as far as you’d like and then come back.
Visit Kileaua Lighthouse
Drive up Waimea Canyon (be sure to catch the Pu’u o Kila lookout over Kalalau valley)
Visit both Wailua falls and Opeakea Falls
Drive to the Hanalei Valley overlook to take fantastic pictures (taro fields with mountain backdrop)
Visit Spouting Horn
Take a plantation tour (the sugar plantation tour, the Kilohana plantation, or the Kauai plantation railway)
Visit the farmer’s markets ( http://realkauai.com/FarmersMarkets/ )
Visit the Kauai Senior Center (Leisure programs for seniors 55 and older. Visitors welcome)
